Applications can be completed online and include a series of short answer questions and the submission of your most recent transcript and a resume.

After your application is reviewed, you will be notified if you have been selected to interview. After your interview, you will be notified if you are accepted into the Internship Program. You will be contacted if an internship placement matching your experience and interest becomes available. If matched to an internship, you will interview with the site supervisor. You may need to interview with multiple sites before finding a good match to your skills and interests.

Students must have a valid working card/working papers (also known as Employment Certification) and be eligible to work in the United States. Requirements to obtain these papers include a copy of your birth certificate and a certificate of physical fitness completed by a NY State physician. These materials must be submitted to a designated person in your high school.

A resume, your most recent transcript, and one reference are also required for this program. You can ask a teacher, a supervisor, a coach, or you mentor!

Summer interns are also required to complete a post-Internship survey at the end of the program.

Selected students will interview with a member of the Futures and Options team. If accepted into the program, Futures & Options will try to individually match you to an internship site that connects with your abilities, goals, and interests will help you prepare for the job interview. You may need to interview with multiple sites before you are accepted by an internship. Not all students accepted into this program are matched with or hired by internship sites.

In addition to your internship hours, The Internship Program includes two required pre-trip orientations and a series of six career readiness workshops that compliment your hands-on working experience. You must complete the pre-trip orientations BEFORE beginning your internship. The career readiness sessions take place weekly in July and August and will take place at the Futures and Options office (111 Broadway, Manhattan). Here you will focus on building skills such as communication, interviewing, financial literacy, resume writing, and more.

The Summer Internship Program is a 6-week program. Students will work between 20-30 hours per week; most summer internships are a total of 120-150 hours. Internship opportunities are in-person, hybrid, and remote. All interns will attend Career Exploration field trips with selected employer partners to learn more about potential career pathways.

This is a local program that will take place in New York City and does not include meals or overnight accommodations. Metrocards will be provided by Summer Search at your Goodbye Group.

This is an open enrollment program, which means non-Summer Searchers will be able to join your group and you’ll meet folks from diverse backgrounds. There may be a couple of other Summer Searchers attending the same program, but most people will probably not know each other!

Phones and other electronic devices are available for use as mandated by your assigned internship.

All internship placements will be in New York City and metrocards will be provided by Summer Search at your Goodbye Group before programming begins.

We recommend having $35-100 for personal spending. You may want to buy lunches, snacks, and/or professional attire.

There is no packing list necessary for this program. Be sure to ask your mentor or your Futures and Options Program Coordinator for advice on what to wear/bring to your internship.
